About Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge
Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is widely regarded as one of the most spectacularly positioned lodges in Africa. Perched on a razor-sharp ridge at over 2,200 metres above sea level at Nkuringo, the lodge sits between Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the Kigezi Highland Forest Reserve, with views that on clear days extend to the Virunga volcanoes in the DRC and Rwanda. Eight stone cottages with thatched roofs are heated by log fires and furnished with handcrafted wooden furniture. A stunning infinity-edge dining area and lounge overlook the forest valley below. The lodge is particularly cold at night — the extra blankets are not optional — and the early morning mist rolling through the valley is a defining experience. The Nkuringo gorilla families are known for ranging at higher altitude than the Buhoma groups, often requiring a steeper descent into the forest at the start of the trek.
