About Ruhija Gorilla Safari Lodge
Ruhija Gorilla Safari Lodge is the main accommodation option in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi — the least visited and highest altitude part of the park, located in the eastern part of the forest. The lodge sits at over 2,300 metres above sea level, making it significantly colder than the other Bwindi sectors, and the altitude makes for a particularly challenging gorilla trek. However, the Ruhija sector has compensations: it is the best sector for birdwatching in Bwindi, with several Albertine Rift endemics more reliably found here than elsewhere, and the overall tourist density is lower. Twelve en-suite cottages with log fires, a restaurant, and a forest-facing lounge make this a comfortable midrange base for the adventurous traveller.
